International legal questions of environmental impact assessment in a transboundary context in the Caspian Sea region The article examines the emergence and development of the international legal regime for the protection of the marine environment of the Caspian Sea from pollution from all sources, including the protection, conservation, restoration and sustainable and rational use of the biological resources of the Caspian Sea. The author analyses the main points of view on the legal status of sustainable development, denies the existence of sustainable development as an obligatory principle of international law and defines the role of sustainable development in international law as one of its main objectives.
