Who is for it or against it? I prefer not to have it.

This question is like asking someone if they like Ford Mustangs or Chevy Camaros. Its up to personal needs whether or not a thumb safety is a wise idea or not. For someone who's been shooting Glocks for a decade, its probably a bad idea. For someone who's been carrying a 1911 for that same period of time, its a great idea. As long as you own a functional firearm with the skill to put the rounds where you need them who cares whether you like the safety, dont like the safety, prefer a silver slide to a blued slide, small backstrap, large backstrap, etc. I bought my 9c from Bud's a couple years back with the external safety only because they were on sale for $439. After taking an advanced class and failing to disengage the safety under pressure every time, I took it to a gunsmith and had him remove the safety and install frame plugs.

I ordered my 45c without the safety. I know you can choose to leave it disengaged, but I personally like it better without.

Phase 1 environmental assessment. One less thing to do before you pull the trigger, which could mean the difference between going home to my family or not. As someone said, it is redundant and unnecessary. I bought my 9c from Bud's a couple years back with the external safety only because they were on sale for $439. Had one with a safety sold it now have 3 with out The County Mounties switched from Glocks to S&W because of the safety - they hate them, after 12 years with glocks - the safety is not a muscle memoty thing yet plus they have two holster locks - talk about the lawyers putting the LEO's in Harms Way. Went to a big box store today with my wife. She loves my M&P pro so I wanted her to try out a compact to see how it feels. The one they had, had a manual safety. I don't want one on an M&P, and my wife has no wish for one either. So I express this to the counter guy, and he tells me thats the only way they come and its easy to get used to.
