DJ Riff you are a god among men. DJ Riff^ Ok after some experimenting, it looks like TafferPatcher lost support for Thief Multiplayer along the way recently. After installing Thief Multiplayer, then running TafferPatcher to finish it off, it no longer creates the separate thiefmp.exe, it just overwrites the multiplayer modification completely. This is with both version 215 and 218 of multiplayer. I've included a link to 218 incase you didn't know about it (I didn't) Tos has slightly improved body carrying, and added an increased difficulty option, so I no longer have to install the Ultimate Difficulty mod with it. (Announcement thread) And. Maybe he's changed his mind about letting you include it in Taffer Patcher by now??

It would save this kind of hassle. The multiplayer patch is not compatible with NewDark. Tos' patch has it's own EXE file as you know, and so NewDark's will overwrite that. May be too confusing to add it to tafferpatcher, unless it can be explicitly stated somewhere in the installer that you need thief 2 1.18 in order to use it. Either that, or some way to grey out the checkbox if you are installing NewDark. I talked to Tos recently and asked him about the patch and he said he hasn't had the time or interest, but he 'feels like [he] will get back to it eventually.'

(no one in particular is Khan, I just feel the rage.) Well. I'll keep a separate copy of Thief for single player and the latest TafferPatcher, and keep my other setup of Thief just for multiplayer.

On a separate topic, I'm finding DarkLoader to be so much better than the built-in FMSel of NewDark. Anyone else's opinion? DarkLoader shows the descriptions, full titles, transparently handles backing up of savegames between fan missions, and is just all round easier to use. FMSel seems like an odd choice to include. FMSel isn't the perfect FM manager, by any means. But it has one feature the others seem to lack, and that's the ability to load up extracted FM files with the game, without overwriting anything.

And it does it very well. I wish it had two things: The ability to find and show FM info files, and the ability to read all forms of FM title listings and update the listing accordingly in the menu. Otherwise, I'm stuck digging through the.zip files or the extracted FM directory for the info file, and I have a bunch of FMs by their.zip name that I have to keep track of, or if I had all the time in the world or the patience, rename each one. But that one feature it has makes it much better than Darkloader for the time being, in my opinion.

I thought the Darkloader creator (forgot his name) was going to add this feature as well though, so maybe if that happens it'll be on top again for me and others. It's clean interface and no-nonsense design is certainly a plus. FMSel is also very simple, which is my favorite aspect.

Well I assume the main advantage to the extracted approach is there's no 'install time' when changing FMs. Never had a problem with that with Darkloader though, it usually takes seconds anyway (Calendra's Legacy might take a few mins, but I usually stick to one FM for a while anyway). I'd never trade a small speed improvement for ease of browsing, and seamless savegame backups. FMSel bugs you about it every time you switch, opening up the possibility of accidently clicking NO and losing your save games. One other question - how is the new TafferPatcher with the 'Ultimate difficulty mod'?

Does it modify dark.gam or can I replace it without messing anything up? I don't know about everyone else, but I find thief nothing more than an unnecessarily complex game of 'Whack-a-mole' without it. With it, guards notice movements and sounds that you'd assume a regular human could, eg. For example, they'll be startled by the sight of a torch being splashed out, and go into search mode. It makes for more intense missions, and more opportunities to use the consumables. It means I actually have a chance at FAILING a mission. And makes multiplayer totally awesome.

You really have to work together. (edit: thanks nickie for the FMSel tip). One other question - how is the new TafferPatcher with the 'Ultimate difficulty mod'?Ultimate difficulty mod is not compatible with Antimatter16's Complete Fixed Pack because both of them use modified gamesys and missions in the Pack are supposed to work with the gamesys supplied with the Pack while the Ultimate difficulty gamesys is mostly the original one with some values tweaked.
